Tangencies

Two figures are tangents when they have only one point in common, the point of tangency (T).

The most common tangencies can occur among circumference ands traight lines or among circumferences.

In order to draw precise tangencies, learn the followings theorems:

First theorem: a straight line is tangent to a circumference when both have only one point in common. The radius of the circumference at the point of tangency is at right angle to the tangent.

 

Second theorem: a circumference is tangencial to two straight lines from a common pointi fits centre is on the angle bisector of the angle formed by the straight lines.

What is abstract art?
 
Abstract art  uses a visual language of shape, form, color and line to create a composition which may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world.


  Abstraction  is the process of taking away or removing characteristics from something in order to reduce it to a set of essential characteristics.

 Abstraction is also a  general idea or quality rather than an actual person, object, or event.

 EXERCICE

Today we will continue working on the element but not representing it in a realistic way. We will try to find a way to represent our element making something more abstract. I suggest bringing to class papers, plastics, cardboard and other materials that you can use to represent only the color or the texture  of your element  without any figurative idea.

Today we will continue working on your element using watercolor. 

I would like to give you an advice:

Before you start applying color on the drawing, it is important to keep in mind which areas  will remain white  to protect them, because in watercolor doesn't exist white color.

Is important to consider too, that is better don't use the black directly and try to find the darkest areas and shadows applying the color by steps (adding more color after dried).

DRAWING IN A REALISTIC WAY

Exercice

For  several sessions we will draw in a realistic way. In order to do this, we need our drawing set. But in this case, we will need too, an organic element you must choose,  keeping in mind you will bring at class for several weeks.


When you try to draw in a realistic way,  It's very important to observe in detail your element and keeping your eyes on it , not on the paper.
